Touring Baja California in my 1973 VW Bus
Dave
Here are some shots from the 2-3 weeks I spent touring around Baja California Mexico. I drove to the southern tip and back with a friend and then explored San Felipe as well as hanging out with the Mexicali VW Club.

The fuel economy on my bus isn’t great but I’ve put a newer engine in it. A bus like this in decent shape should get around 20 MPG. My bus carries a lot of equipment when I’m on the road so it’s heavy and fuel economy suffers as a result.
Cool that you grew up in an orange bus that’s also an automatic. They’re hard to come by.

when i was a small child my family had an orange 1973 bus. it was an automatic bus. my dad couldn’t maintain it, and he knew the trans was failing. he sold it and the trans failed on the family that bought it, but they fixed the trans and kept driving it. what kind of fuel economy do you get on this bus?

Those vintage VW buses have souls and I haven’t met an evil one yet.

The beach was located just south of Todos Santos. An old campground that was up for sale so it was free.

Well, I like this video! …where was that beach where the guy was surfing? Looks like an excellent wave.

For me it’s the greatest. I went from tent camping to hanging in the back of the bus and it’s total luxury. For others it’s not enough and for some it’s too much. All depends on your tastes.
